Broadstairs newsagents releases CCTV footage of late night raid at store

The owner of a newsagents in Broadstairs has released CCTV footage of a late night raid at his shop.

Richard Chamberlain, who has run Victory News in Nelson Place for some 16 years, says £350 cash including charity money for the Cheerful Sparrows ward at QEQM Hospital, some £4,500 worth of cigarettes and alcohol were taken during the break in last night (September 26).

In the CCTV one man can be seen rummaging around in the store and filling a bag with goods including beer.

Kent Police confirmed officers are investigating the burglary.

A police spokesperson said: “The owner called Kent Police at 5.15am today to report that the windows of the shop had been smashed and items including cigarettes, alcohol and money had been taken.

“Officers are making enquiries into the burglary including viewing CCTV footage.”

According to a post this evening by Mr Chamberlain, one man has been arrested. Police have been asked for further details.
