Council cleaners tasked with clearing dog mess package left for South Thanet MP

Someone left a message for South Thanet MP Craig Mackinlay

Thanet council street cleaners had to remove a pile of dog faeces thought to have been left as a dirty protest outside the Broadstairs offices of South Thanet MP Craig Mackinlay.

The unpleasant pile was dumped outside the office door at some point on Sunday (August 4).

A Thanet council spokesperson said: “Our street cleansing teams work hard removing litter and refuse across the district’s streets and public open spaces and this is just one example of them going above and beyond what is expected of them and carrying out their duties with dedication and pride.”

Mr Mackinlay said this was the second time his office has been targeted with this kind of protest.

He said: “Thanks go to TDC street cleaners who cleaned the worst of it over the weekend. Only a small mess greeted my staff in the morning.

“We had a similar event a few weeks ago, with a staff member giving chase.”

  1. I feel sorry for the cleaning team but it is a very apt discription of our MP I would like to shake the hand of the person who dumped it there only after they have washed their hands.

  2. Are Thanet Councils refuse and street cleansing team under staffed and stretched to their limit. ? Will the prospect of 17,000 + dwellings make matters worse. ? The answer is a resounding yes.

I have a food waste bin that hasn’t been emptied for 5 weeks.
My household refuse bins are emptied on an add-hoc basis.
*My Road hasn’t seen a street cleaner for two years.
Only two of the eight drains were cleaned last winter.

*I Pay TDC in my property tax to sweep the roads. I pay my town council tax. Can someone explain to me why my Town Council employ road sweepers to carry out the job TDC should be doing. My Town Council possibly pay TDC for the use of a vehicle. Why? What percentage of the £60,000 that the Town Council spent last year has gone on Employing road sweepers and possibly rent of a vehicle. ?

Which Town Council is this please?

    • I suggest you contact your local councillor about your problems. We were without a brown food waste bin for 3 months, then totally fed up, I rang our local councillor, who contacted the right officer, who we don’t have access to. We had a new bin within a week.

  3. dog poo is actually the job of the council dream on TDC part of the service you should be doing but fail
    time for some sackings
competent people to do the job
thanet is dirty but becoming dirtier

and where is the money going offshore with no doubt

  4. Why should the street cleaners that we do not see often enough in Cliftonville West clean Mr McKinlay’s private forecourt outside his shop premises in Broadstairs anyway? Why couldn’t he scrape it up and dispose of it correctly like we all have to do outside our own properties? Does he get special privileges we don’t have? Huh, cheek of it complaining, just get on with it!

    • Agree with “Kent Resident”. I have to clean up the pavement outside my house if this happens. No-one from the council does it and nor would I expect them to.
I expect if there had been a cameraman there Mr PhotoOp Mackinlay would have cleared this up himself.

  5. Along by St Luke’s Church in Ramsgate is a total disgrace. Went there Sunday and was shocked by the mess.

  6. Is it not time for dog owners to pay a certain local dog tax to pay for the cleaning and emptying of dog bins. At the end of the day. It’s an individual’s choice to own a dog. Not the councils and there is too much onus on the council to clean up individual mess. Also, the point bags that people just drop on the pathways. I’m a dog owner by the way.

  7. Get a shovel Tories, the people have been metaphorically shovelling your austerity shit for the last decade!
