Crowds turn out to enjoy biggest Newington Best Fest yet

Newington Best Fest

Some 2,500 people turned out to celebrate Best Fest in Newington last weekend.

Newington came together for the event which was organised by Newington Big Local.

Residents enjoyed free chicken wraps, fruit and ice cream for everyone. Free activities included an obstacle course, henna tattoos, face painting, storytelling and ribbon and flag making for the carnival float this year.

There was also a Creepy Claws tent where people could handle unusual animals including snakes and large spiders!

Sports by Active Thanet and other stands including Ageless Thanet, Your Leisure and Paines Plough theatre company, who will be coming back in September,  Age UK Thanet, Kent Volunteering, Macmillan, Creative Newington, Orbit Housing, Looping the Loop, Newington’s Chill Club, and the Summer Kitchen also joined the fun.

Margate Ambulance Corps  were on hand in case of emergency and there was also a visit from Kent Fire Brigade who had to rush off on a shout.

Entertainment throughout the day was provided by Academy FM, local band  Charlie Don’t Surf, talented young performers from Pie Factory Music and amazing Elijah Femi.

Organisers thanked Tesco for a grant towards the festival, Thanet Earth for the food and vegetables and Poundland for the giveaways.
