Ramsgate man arrested over sexual offences following ‘predator’ sting

Emergency services

Police have arrested a 35-year-old man in Ramsgate in connection with sexual offences following a ‘sting’ by STOP (secretly tackling online predators).

A team from the group used a decoy to lure the man who they accuse of sending explicit images to a 14-year-old girl.

Questions have, however, been raised about the legality of using handcuffs to detain the man while waiting for police. The SIA (Security Industry Authority) is investigating.

STOP describes itself as “Decoys, Hunters, Security and Research Team aiming to rid the communities of online sexual predators who prey on young children..”

A Kent Police spokesman said: “Officers arrested a 35-year-old man at around 11pm on Thursday, June 27 in Monkton Place, Ramsgate.

“He was arrested in connection with sexual offences and has been bailed to the police station.”
