Theatre arts academy due to open in Westgate

Joseph Hodges Academy

A Margate-born West End producer will be opening a branch of his established theatre arts academy this month.

Joseph Hodges founded JHA academy in Canterbury in January 2017 to provide bespoke musical theatre tuition for young people in Kent.

Since opening the academy has produced two full scale musicals at the Gulbenkian Theatre Canterbury -Legally Blonde and Singin’ in the Rain – offered West End workshops from stars of stage and screen Layton Williams, Katie Ray and Phillipa Stefani and gives weekly tuition in singing, dancing and acting.

Now at capacity, Joseph has decided the time is right to launch a new branch of the academy in Thanet.

His London producing credits include Dolly Parton’s ‘9 to 5 the musical’ and the UK premiere of ‘The Marvelous Wonderettes’.

The academy will offer weekly tuition each Sunday at the Town Hall site above the Carlton Cinema in Westgate between 10am – 1pm and will stage full musical theatre productions at the

Theatre Royal Margate. With West End Workshops, the academy’s  own agency students will be able to audition for professional work in theatre, film and television.

The JHA academy will launch on Sunday, April 28.
