HM Coastguard Margate and the British Divers Marine Life Rescue teams were called to Margate yesterday (April 23) to reports of a stranded seal between Newgate Gap and the Lido in Margate.

The teams attended a one year old seal who appeared to be fit and well.

A Coastguard spokesman said: “This does happen from time to time as there is a large seal colony both at the Margate sands and in the entrance to the River Stour.”

The seal was left as the tide was incoming and it would probably make its way back out to sea.
