The Ageless Thanet Age-Friendly Business Scheme has gone from strength to strength since it started in January 2016. The scheme works with local businesses to encourage them to be more aware of the needs of older people.
By working with businesses to help them become more age-friendly, Ageless Thanet is helping to make Thanet a greater place to grow older.
There are now over 370 businesses signed up to the scheme, ranging from coffee shops and restaurants, hairdressers and beauty therapists, sports and exercise classes, garages, legal and financial services to trades people. The majority of these businesses also offer a discount or incentive to those over the age of 50 who have an Ageless Thanet Reward Card.
The offer varies from business to business and all details can be found via the free Ageless Thanet app (available to download on Android and Apple devices), the Ageless Thanet website, or the printed directory.
Central Cars is one business which is part of the Age-Friendly Business Scheme. They offer a 10% discount on local journeys to Ageless Thanet Reward Card holders.
Maria Seager, owner of Central Cars, said:“I thought the scheme was a great idea when I first heard about it, and I realised that being part of it had the potential to bring new customers to the business. We get lots of marketing support from Ageless Thanet, such as the ‘logo’ stickers which our drivers display on their dashboard, posters and strut cards for on the counter and a listing on the app, website and in the printed directory.
“The business has also benefited from the networking groups which covered interesting subjects such as social media and GDPR, attending these also afforded us the opportunity to meet other businesses on the scheme.”
