Delight as Dame Janet Primary Academy receives Good grading from Ofsted

Dame Janet Primary gains a Good all round grading

Staff and pupils at Dame Janet Primary Academy in Ramsgate are celebrating after being awarded a Good grading by Ofsted inspectors.

The Newington Road school had been classed as Requires Improvement at its last full inspection in June 2016 but inspectors say the “determination and resolute leadership” of the executive headteacher, head of school and deputy headteacher “has successfully improved the quality of teaching and learning and consequently raised standards since the previous inspection.”

Ofsted noted “a very strong culture of safeguarding in the school” and that “pupils (are) at the heart” of all the work carried out.

The report states that teaching is good across the board with “motivating and inspiring texts,” and clear explanations.

Inspectors praised the school’s work to promote pupils’ personal development and welfare as “outstanding,” and added: “(Pupils) thrive at the school because they are encouraged to develop self-esteem, confidence, and resilience as learners with high aspirations, often from a low base.”

The report also highlights a dramatic drop in the number of pupils who were persistently absent last year “almost halving, from the previous two years.”

Early Years provision was also rated as good with children making “good and sometimes very rapid progress,” due to activities including forest school outings and the “warm, welcoming and safe environment” or nursery and reception classes.

Executive headteacher Sam Atkinson said he was delighted with the Ofsted outcome.

He added: “Dame Janet is delighted that Ofsted agrees with their assessment that it is a good school. Following a visit on October 2-3, the inspectors confirmed that Ramsgate has a good school that provides an outstanding level of personal development and welfare to its pupils.

“I am delighted with the outcome; recognising as it does that a great team of staff have worked tirelessly to give the children a highly nurturing environment which creates children that are a credit to their school and the community.”

If you are interested in your child joining the Dame Janet reception classes in 2019, the school is currently offering personal tours to parents.

Limited spaces are also available now in other year groups and the nursery. Contact the main office on 01843 591807 to book.
