Houdini’s Magic Bar in Broadstairs is holding a fundraiser for Macmillan cancer charity this month after receiving devastating news about the venue’s resident magician.
Peter Corey, who amazes regulars with his mindblowing tricks, was diagnosed with terminal cancer earlier this year.
Peter is an award-winning actor, writer and magician, a youth worker, father and good friend of all those at Houdini’s.
The 72-year-old is the writer behind books including the Coping With…series and has had acting roles in numerous programmes including Hornblower, Brookside, One Foot in the Grave and London’s Burning.
Multi-talented Peter has written scripts and stage plays and now lives in Manston and teaches drama whilst still delighting audiences with magic and comedy.
The event on October 28 will raise funds for the charity which provides care and support for those affected by cancer.
There will be a family funday with magic shows by DDMagic, facepainting with Mrs Jellybabies, balloon models and games from 1pm to 5pm.
Then, from 6pm to 11pm, there will be live magic with Jez Gorham and a special show from Peter Corey himself.
There will also be nibbles and live music throughout the day. After 6pm is for those aged 18 and over.
A Houdini’s spokesman said: “We are working with the corporate fundraising team of Macmillan to raise as much as possible for such an important charity. Magic for Macmillan is going to be a fun-filled, magic packed day for all ages. It is such an important cause and one close to our own hearts.
“Earlier this year we learned the devastating news that our resident magician, legendary gentleman and above all else our good friend, Peter Corey, has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
“We love him dearly and we are in awe that he is fighting back, kicking a*se, thinking of others, keeping his sense of humour intact and still doing what he loves! If you have seen Peter perform at Houdini’s you still won’t know what to expect. From Alien card stab and a squeaky ear to mindblowing card tricks and cups and balls.
“ Peter Corey is a multi Bafta award winning actor, magician, writer, youth worker, father, friend and one hell of a guy…he is the most humble and kind guys you will ever meet and we love him.
“We will be raising funds via donation buckets provided by Macmillan, percentages of our drinks sales, balloon models, facepainting, raffles and more. We hope to see lots of people here to support such a great cause and to have an enjoyable day and night.”
