A man arrested by armed officers in Broadstairs has been released

A man arrested by armed police in Broadstairs yesterday (June 25) has been released without charge.

Police were called at 12.19pm after reports of a person with a weapon and an Iranian flag behaving suspiciously outside Westwood Tesco

The man was said to have entered several stores in the Millennium Way area. No threats were made to staff or to members of the public.

The weapon, described by a witness as possibly an axe, is now believed to have been a bat.

Police, including armed officers, arrested a 34-year-old Broadstairs man in Leas Green, off Rumfields Road, at 1.41pm on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon. He has now been released.
