Post Office proposal to bring services back to Newington

The Post Office is opning a counter at the Premier shop in Newington Road

A Post Office service could be opened in Newington again.

Post Office Ltd is proposing to provide a branch at Rams News & Off Licence, 73 Newington Road.

The branch would be open throughout the store’s opening hours Monday to Sunday: 6am – 8pm – equalling 98 hours of Post Office service a week.

The previous Newington branch, at 85 Newington Road, closed temporarily in 2017 due to operational reasons.

A Post Office spokesman said: “We are now in a position to restore a service to our customers in the local community. Our priority is to safeguard Post Office services to the local community in the longer term.  The re-opening of the branch will create a more secure Post Office service to the local Newington community for the future.

“This would be a local Post Office service with Post Office services delivered from an open-plan counter alongside the retail counter.”

The Post Office is now inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the move in a six-week public consultation.

The consultation will close on June 21.

Submissions can be made during the consultation by Freepost Your Comments to Post Office Ltd, via email to [email protected], via the Customer Helpline on 03457 22 33 44 or Textphone 03457 22 33 55.

Customers can also share their views online through the questionnaire at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 224909.
