Sarah Stokes opens Let’s Dance exhibition at York Street Gallery

Sarah Stokes is showing her work in Ramsgate

They say that success breeds success and for Ramsgate artist Sarah Stokes the phrase couldn’t be truer.

Born in Northamptonshire and, following spells in our nation’s capital as well as nearby Whitstable, Ms. Stokes found a home in Thanet seven years ago and is making her mark on the arts scene.

Showing splashes of spontaneity, playfulness, and an aptitude for a musical storyscapes, Sarah has found her own niche in Thanet’s vibrant art market, following up a recent outing last month at the New Kent Art Gallery in Broadstairs with a new exhibition at the York Street Gallery in Ramsgate from today (April 11).

Speaking ahead of the Let’s Dance exhibition she said: “I just thought I’d run with it, especially getting this one straight after doing the New Kent gallery.

“At the end of the day, I just want to be able to connect with people – if you open your heart up then that is what my art is all about.

“It’s uplifting and happy, different but interesting at the same time and, although rather abstract, you can warm to it.”

Having gone through different stages in her creativity Sarah is in a happy, colourful stance, much different from when she started out. As a former journalist the creative vibe has continued to flow but through the brush instead of the pen.

Sarah said; “There’s been a general creative for me whether writing or painting.

“I’ve been a journalist and also write musical lyrics but it takes courage to do it and I just want to get my work out there. It was quite dark in the beginning and it definitely showed in my art.”

Mike Samson, of the York Street Gallery, added: “It’s always a delight to have Sarah Stokes exhibiting with us at York Street Gallery. We are looking forward to seeing her new collection this month.

“Her work has such a positive message, through design and the pastel tones and colours she uses.”

A ‘Meet the Artist’ session takes place this Saturday from 2:30pm and Sarah’s Lets Dance Exhibition runs from  now until Wednesday, April 18.
