Emergency services called after teenage girl is hit by a van at Westwood

Emergency services were called to the scene of a collision by Westwood where a teenage girl suffered a serious leg injury this afternoon (February 13).

The Margate Road close to the Poorhole Lane/Star Lane roundabout was partially blocked in both directions down to the Haine Road roundabout due to accident involving a van and a pedestrian.

There was also congestion along Ramsgate Road towards the hospital.

The teenage girl was taken to hospital. She was then transferred via air ambulance to Kings Hospital London.

Access to the QEQM via the Ramsgate Road entrance was sealed off while the air ambulance was landed.

An ambulance service spokesman said: “At 2pm we responded to a collision between a van and a young girl pedestrian at  Broadstairs with a response car and ambulance.

“The patient was taken to QEQM helipad to link up with the air ambulance and flown from there to Kings Hospital London with a serious leg injury.”

A Kent Police spokesman said: “Kent Police is attending a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a van in Broadstairs.

“Officers and the South East Coast Ambulance Service are attending the scene in Margate Road. The stretch of road is currently closed between the roundabout for Poorhole Lane and the Haine Road roundabout.

“Police were called to the scene at 2.06pm.”

  1. Yet again gridlock in Thanet…..The road system is completely inadequate for the volume of traffic, …So we are to have thousands of more houses and thousands of vehicles to clog up the network even more !!

    • Even on the best road network a major accident would still close them. Bizarrly selfish comment when a child has been seriously hurt.
