A man will appear at crown court charged with attempted robbery of Ramsgate High Street shop

A 23-year-old man is to appear in crown court next month charged in connection with an attempted robbery in Ramsgate.

At around 1.35pm on Wednesday 7 February armed police were called to the High Street  to reports of an attempted robbery at the International Eastern European convenience shop. Nothing was reported stolen. A man in his 20s was taken to hospital with an airgun pellet injury to his neck.

It was reported that two men assaulted a member of staff at the shop before leaving the scene.

Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses, and ask anyone with information about the incident to call Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting ZY/6662/18.

Ryan Diggins of Newcastle Hill, Ramsgate, was arrested and charged with attempted robbery and having an imitation firearm with intent to commit an offence.

He appeared via virtual link at Canterbury Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 10 February where he was remanded.

The case will be heard at Canterbury Crown Court on 12 March.

A 24-year-old man who was arrested on 7 February in connection with the incident has been released without charge.
