Your Time at the Hussar was officially opened this month (November) by the Mayor of Margate, Cllr Rosamund Dixon.
Cllr Dixon addressed a packed room at the historic Hussar Hotel in Garlinge and spoke about the huge problem of loneliness and social isolation faced by so many older people in Thanet.
The Greyhound Buskers – the performing arm of the Thanet Ukulele Club – played a series of upbeat, feel-good hits from previous decades, while Kent Sport were on hand to provide taster sessions of indoor bowls.
Your Time is a social inclusion programme organised by the Thanet Community Support Partnership (TCSP) and funded by the Big Lottery Fund.
TCSP project co-ordinator Chris Scutt said: “We were really delighted with how the inaugural ‘Your Time at the Hussar’ went. There was a great turn out and a wonderful atmosphere, not to mention good food and drink.
“Those who came along relished the opportunity to meet and socialise with new people, and enjoyed the music and activities on offer. We hope we are doing our bit to tackle loneliness in older people by organising these simple but effective social afternoons.”
Your Time at the Hussar takes place each Friday from noon to 2pm.
