St Nicholas-at-Wade Primary School has raised £1,088 for children’s charity the NSPCC.
Children and staff at the school became rock stars for the day whilst taking part in a times table challenge. Funds raised will help the NSPCC provide vital support to children who have experienced neglect or abuse.
In order to prepare for their challenge and to help them learn their times tables they were using the online programme Times Tables Rockstars.
Every pupil competed against their classmates while dressed as rock stars for the Rock Festival to see how many calculations they could complete correctly in a minute.
Friends and family supported the children by sponsoring their efforts and the school hall was transformed into a festival venue. By the end of the day each class had a winning Rock Times Tables Legend.
Head teacher Heather Kemp said: “Having recently had a Speak Out Stay Safe assembly delivered in our school we decided we wanted to help raise funds for the charity.
“The children learned about the different types of abuse and what they can do if they are worried about anything, including speaking to a trusted adult or phoning Childline for support.
“We have been overwhelmed with the children’s hard work and the generosity of families in giving to such an important charity. We hope our contribution will make a real difference to children’s lives and we are really proud of our school being able to help in this way.”

The NSPCC Schools Service is recruiting for volunteers across Kent to help them reach even more primary schools with their Speak Out Stay Safe messages. Volunteers need to have flexible availability during school hours and have the confidence to present a sensitive subject to children in a relaxed and engaging way. Full training is provided.
