Margate’s volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew has rescued a woman in distress from the sea off Westbrook Bay.

UK Coastguard was alerted by a member of the public late yesterday afternoon (Monday 2 October) after a female was seen to be in distress in the sea.

Margate’s RNLI inshore lifeboat was tasked to assist along with the coastguard rescue helicopter from Lydd Airport and local coastguard rescue team. Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAMS) personnel also responded.

The lifeboat rescued the woman. The volunteer crew provided immediate casualty care and the lifeboat returned to the station at Margate.

Casualty care was continued ashore at the lifeboat station by waiting RNLI personnel, including an RNLI casualty care trainer who was attending the station, along with paramedics from SECAMB and the other emergency services.

The woman was handed into the care of the ambulance service.
