Donations flood in to JustGiving page set up to pay for funeral of Ramsgate dad Archie Ward

Archie Ward

A JustGiving page launched to help  pay for the funeral of a Ramsgate dad who died after being stabbed on Sunday has smashed through its target in just 11 hours.

The page was set up in memory of 40-year-old Archie Ward, who collapsed in Bush Avenue following the altercation at a barbecue in St John’s Crescent.

Tragically the former Hereson student and keen football fan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The death shocked the Thanet community with many taking to social media to express their sorrow and anger at the loss.

A community comes together

In response to the tragedy the page, created by Scott Downton, aims to help with the financial burden to the family.

On the page Scott has written: “Michael ‘Archie’ Ward was known and loved by many within the Thanet community and this was a result of a number of his underlying characteristics.  Whilst a very keen and formidable sportsman he had an ability to light up the room and welcome everyone within.

‘Fun and love’

“His charming personality and very cheeky grin always meant people were pleased to see ‘our Arch’ and none more so than his adoring children who he has always doted on.  Archie was often seen with his ‘clan’ and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with them providing the fun and love they craved.
“However, on Father’s Day the opportunity for the children to see their father was tragically taken away.  The sadness from the children and the local community couldn’t be more apparent through social media, flowers laid and too many tears shed.

‘Incredible’

“These tragic circumstances have led to friends suggesting help for Archie and the family he leaves behind.  As you would imagine there are a number of costs and primarily a funeral.
“It is incredible that one man could have fulfilled so many people’s lives by just being ‘Archie.’

“During this very difficult time your kindness and goodwill can only help Archie and his family.  Whilst we cannot take away the emotional burden I am hopeful we can soften the financial one. To this extent, we welcome contributions and thank you in advance for your help in this time of need.”

The page had set a £5,000 target but donations have flooded in meaning the total is now at £8,780. More than 170 donations have been made.
