Margate’s RNLI all-weather lifeboat was called out yesterday afternoon (Saturday 27 May) after a local commercial fishing boat suffered machinery failure off the north Kent coast.

The boat, with two persons on board, was around two miles north-east of Herne Bay when it contacted UK Coastguard reporting they were drifting towards an offshore sandbank and required assistance.

The lifeboat was tasked and once on scene established that the occupants of the fishing boat were safe and well. The vessel was taken in tow to the safety of Ramsgate harbour.
