The Thanet Pugathon is back!

The Thanet Pugathon is back!

Stalls, food, raffle, a picture booth and, of course, pugs in fancy dress will all be on show at King George VI Park in Ramsgate on May 13.

The event runs from 11am to 2pm and will be raising funds for Guardian Angel Dog Rescue.

Organiser Lucy Cook said: “This year we will have stalls and  a proper photo booth provided by Fun Pics photo booth, which are available to be hired for parties /weddings /occasions . I’m hoping we can make each year bigger and better and by hashtagging we may get the attention of a business which may sponsor us which would relieve the financial pressure and allow me to concentrate solely on fundraising for Guardian Angels Dog Rescue.

“If anyone would like to drum up interest please use the hashtag #thanetpugathon with all your pugs ready to come along. Also on the day #thanetpugathon with all your photos you’ll be tweeting, instagramming and facebooking.”

The cost of running the event this year has risen massively, said Lucy.

Last year she paid £60 to stage the one-day pugathon at the park. This year the bill comes to approximately £385.

She said: “I made calendars especially to fundraise for the rental last year – and to contribute towards the insurance. It’s a shame as it’s a fundraising event for nonprofit – usually we only raise £500.

“Many followers on the Facebook page have been really kind and contributed towards the cost so I would like to say a massive thank you to them! We rely solely on donations so I ask all those who do come along – if they would be so kind as to put a few pennies in the donation buckets – it will go to the dogs – which is why we do it. I do not take expenses – however I am shocked at the increase of fees this year.”

Part of the fee, £250, is refundable if there is no damage to the area.
