The annual Broadstairs Water Gala returns this month with day and evening activities and entertainment – all for free.
The programme of events take place on the beach, bandstand and promenade on Wednesday, July 24 catering for all ages.
This year to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the arrival of Hugin the Viking Ship, the Water Gala will have a Viking theme.
The day’s activities get off to an early start at 8.30am with Thanet Coast Project, exploring the rock pools and chalk reefs at low tide, followed by the popular Teddy Bears Picnic at Lillyputt Mini Golf.
From 9.30 am there will be Paddle board lessons, beach games all day, sandcastle competition, best dressed beach hut in Viking theme competition, Punch & Judy, RNLI Lifeboats at the Jetty, Shipwrights Sea Shanty Crew, King Neptune arriving and Viking story telling.
Bandstand entertainment runs from 11am to 5pm. featuring live music, local dance schools, Japanese drumming, Juggle it all children’s entertainer, Viking craft making in Balmoral Gardens, walkabout characters and lots more.
There will be craft and gift stalls along the promenade, plus a funfair on Victoria Gardens (charges apply)
To finish the day there will be live music on the bandstand from 8pm featuring the fabulous Decades Showband and a firework finale at 9.45pm. The display will include a special feature of a mock up of the Viking Ship on the beach being lit up with fireworks
