Woman arrested on suspicion of making false reports after ‘person in distress’ alert in sea at Margate

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of making false reports following a call out to a person in distress in the sea at Margate this morning (January 29).

Ramsgate lifeboat was launched at 8.08am at the request of UK Coastguard to a person in distress in the water opposite Turner Contemporary.

While the Ramsgate crew were making their way to the scene, shore based emergency services were able to get the woman out of the water.

Kent Police was called at 7.41am to a concern for a woman in the sea near to Marine Drive in Margate.

Officers attended  and a 32-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of making false reports. She remains in police custody.
