The Cliffsend Village Store will close for good this weekend

Cliffsend Village Store will shut for good

The Cliffsend Village Store will shut its doors for the final time this Saturday (July 1).

The store, which is run by volunteers, will close for good at 12.30pm after 16 years of serving the village.

The Post Office will continue with its outreach service and run on Mondays and Saturdays.

The shop opened in 2001 and extended into its current premises in 2004.

It was made possible through village fundraising and volunteers. But the management committee in charge has dwindled. There should be eight members but currently there are just three people shouldering the load.

An annual meeting earlier this month did not bring forward new volunteers and now the decision has been made to close what had been a successful store for good.

It comes less than three-months after village pub The Sportsman closed for good.

The village boozer, run by Teresa Kirk and Ronnie Mark, called last orders for good after being put on the market with a guide price of £250,000 plus VAT.

The latest closure leaves just the village hall and the church as community facilities for residents.

One villager said: “It leaves nothing at all in Cliffsend, It will make life harder for elderly residents.”

The closure follows the final day of Reading Street Post Officer yesterday (June 27).
