Reading Street Post Office will close today for good

The Reading Street branch closed in June

The Reading Street Post Office, in Broadstairs, will close at 7pm tonight (June 27) for good.

The Post Office and Vyas Stores are a lifeline for many elderly residents but the resignation of the postmaster has forced the closure – unless a new postmaster is found.

A Post Office spokesperson said: “Unfortunately the Postmaster has resigned and the premises are being withdrawn for Post Office use.

“The branch closes today (27/6) at 7pm.

“ We are committed to maintaining a Post Office in this area. The vacancy is currently advertised on our website www.runapostoffice.co.uk. Alternative branches in the area include Broadstairs  and Holly Lane in Margate.”

Alternative Post Offices

Broadstairs Post Office, 15-16 The Broadway, Broadstairs, CT10 2AD

Holly Lane Post Office, 372 Northdown Road, Margate, CT9 3PQ

  1. If you need to post parcels or use pre-paid postage or anything other than the real basics, then I recommend using the one inside ONESTOP at 196-198 Northdown Rd.

The 2 women that work in Holly Lanes PO are so miserable, they make you feel guilty just for taking a parcel in, as though it was the worst chore in the world. They are also not very modernized in there, and get confused and annoyed very easily. Such as if you use pre-paid postage since you get a discount for buying postage online which doesn’t tally with the prices they have, so they might refuse to accept your parcel saying the postage is wrong.

  2. I use Holly lane alot and find the people in there very friendly and chatty indeed. Always very helpful. Can’t fault it. I notice that alot of others are happy with the service too. Lovely shop.
