Youngsters from Zest Academy Dance and Performing Arts

Sport Relief

Youngsters at Zest Academy Dance and Performing Arts school have been raising money at Sainsbury’s in Westwood Cross for Sport Relief, which runs from March 17-23.

The events raise cash for the Comic Relief charity which uses the money raised nationally to support projects in the UK and across the world.

The Zest Academy youngsters danced in the Sainsbury’s foyer yesterday (March 17) between 11am and 1pm.

A Sainsbury’s spokesman said: “Sainsbury’s wanted to use a local dance group to represent the local community and promote that fitness can be fun. We also wanted to customers to participate. It was lovely to see children dancing with the group.”

Sainsbury’s  staff also took part in a Sport Relief football game at Dane Park today (Sunday), kicking off at 2pm.

Inner Wheel Club of Margate

On Tuesday 13th March the Inner Wheel Club of Margate enjoyed a very interesting talk from Tim Mountford from the Garden Gate Project and the work that the charity, which is part of the National Garden Scheme, does, to help people with mental health issues. The project is self funded and provides the participants with a friendly safe environment and enjoyment with various arts and crafts projects and gardening involvement.

After the talk, the meeting continued with the election of officers and committee members for the year 2018/19 which commences in July.

Forthcoming events in March include an afternoon tea at Jackie Daley’s house and a craft afternoon the following week. On April 15th members assist at the annual Rotary Blossom Tour. In May another great afternoon is our Pimms and Puddings held in Joy’s lovely garden where we enjoy a glass of Pimms and a delicious dessert provided by the members.

We are actively seeking new members to join our club to help raise money for good causes. President Barbara’s charities for this year are Operation Sunshine and the Strode Park Foundation. We would give a warm welcome to new members. For further information please contact Amanda Voizey telephone 01843 862225.

Ramsgate Rotary

To become a Friend of Rotary you have to have given very special service  to your local club.

Ramsgate now has two such members, the latest being Philip Reiser who received his special badge from  President Graham Larcombe.

He paid tribute to the tremendous effort put in by Philip with the annual Christmas collections over some years,

“Although he is not a member he has turned out to help with collections on so many evenings, more often than most of us have been able to do” said the president.

The other ‘Friend’ is the President’s wife, Cherry who looks after the club’s website and the taking of photographs.

In other news, there was a good turnout for the annual quiz run joint by Ramsgate Rotary Club and Inner Wheel.

The event, held at St. Peter’s, raised just over £500 for charity.

The winning team was led by Ann and Mick.
