Sports day fun for Ramsgate Arts Primary

Sports day fun at Ramsgate arts Primary

The first sports day at Ramsgate Arts Primary, which opened last September, was a fun family event of races, activities and laughter.

More than 150 pupils cheered on by families and friends took part in a busy programme tailored to suit all ages and abilities on the playing field and games area.

As well as traditional running races, children aged four upwards took part in a carousel of activities that ensured everyone had the chance to represent their school house and earn points for the final total.

The games were arranged by sports coach Jenny Horrigan who said: “It was a brilliant event to mark our first ever sports day at RAPS.

“The children really got involved and it was lovely to see so many parents and family members come along to support all of the pupils.

“I would also like to thank my staff colleagues who helped throughout, marshalling the activities, making sure that there were plenty of refreshments for everyone, keeping the scores and counting the points.

“Although there was a winning house, I think that the positive and happy memories for our children are their gold medals.”

Activities included space hopper races, soft javelin throwing, dressing up relay races, egg and spoon, water carrying obstacle course, balance beams, and shooting balloon targets with water guns.

The day finished with races featuring mums, dads and teachers, cheered on by the pupils, before the final points totals were announced.

Top scorers were green house, followed by red, blue and yellow – but all the competitors were rewarded for their efforts.

Head of School Nick Budge told the crowd: “As it was our first sports day at this school we decided to mark the occasion by giving every single pupil a medal – everyone’s a winner at Ramsgate Arts Primary.”
