A Margate electrical company has joined the effort to help a Kent boy who has a rare disease.

The Falcon electrical and security Ltd team, who last year ‘saved’ Margate’s woefully bare Christmas tree by organising lights and an opening ceremony, are helping to carry out bungalow adaptions to the home of five-year-old Connor Crawford.

The youngster, who lives in Tonbridge, has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy which has no known cure.

DMD is a muscle wasting disease that means the youngster is expected to be in a full time power wheelchair by around 10 years old. The condition, which is caused by a gene defect,  means a life expectancy of about 20 years.

The family are raising funds for the build through their Chasing Connor’s Cure charity but have also been helped with the project by DS Barden Building Contractors.

The firm appealed for businesses to help and Falcon electricals answered the call.

Louis Mayhew, a director at the Margate company, said: “We are doing all the electrics for this family for free. It shows we don’t have to live next door to someone or even in the same town to make a massive impact to change their life by giving our personal skills and knowledge.

“It’s always about giving back into a community, no matter if it’s  the same town or someone else’s town, it’s about helping one another in life.”
