Have a claw-some time at the third Festival of Cats

Festival of Cats

The third Festival of Cats opens this Thursday (April 25) at the Pie Factory Gallery in Margate.

The festival, which runs until Sunday (April 28) consists of a series of exhibitions, workshops and events.

The feline-themed festival started from a love of T.S.Eliot’s book of poetry – “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats’ and much like the book, the festival celebrates the psychology, sociology and whimsy of cats.

Festival creators Jemma Channing and Helen Pitman were overwhelmed with the response to the Open Call for Artists for this year’s festival.

They said: “We had over 240 submissions this year from all over the UK and overseas and the exhibition will showcase over 170 pieces of work from illustration and painting to ceramics and photography. There’s something for everyone.”

The exhibition will be open 10am to 5pm, April 25-28 at the Pie Factory Margate.

  1. I had some 7 cats over 29 years, and have been a member of Cats Protection for decades. There has been a worrying trend lately of people treating cats likes dogs and putting them on leads to go for walk! This is the best way to terrify a cat! Cats are seriously territorial, and removing them from their territory will cause them alarm, and put them into a fight mode with other cats! Do not remove your cat from its territory, which may have been hard fought for!
