By The Sea at Dreamland announces second artist line-up

British Sea Power are on the bill for the By The Sea festival

A second wave of artists performing at Dreamland’s By The Sea festival has been announced.

Back for its third year at Dreamland, By The Sea festival will take place on Friday 29 September – Sunday 1 October, a three-day event for the first time.

Headliners The Libertines, Everything Everything and Metronomy  will be joined by a host of eclectic artists.

Who else is on the bill?

One of Britain’s biggest cult bands and British Sea Power visit By The Sea on the back of their recent album ‘Let The Dancers Inherit The Party’ which has received some of the best reviews of their almost two-decade long career.

Also confirmed is the uncompromising and uninhibited Marika Hackman, whose current album ‘I’m Not Your Man’ tackles big issues around femininity, sexual identity, millennial ennui and the perils of being young in a fast-paced world.

London sextet HMLTD are being heralded as “the UK’s most thrilling new band”  and “a mix of music hall, spaghetti westerns, gay clubs, hedonism, iconoclasm, David Bowie, Talking Heads and Adam Ant rolled into one exhilarating whole.”

Also tipped for greatness are Dream Wife, whose razor sharp pop tunes and fiery punk attitude has inspired chaotic scenes while on tour with Sleigh Bells and The Kills.

Girl Ray’s songs document the dramas of adolescence with  wit and wistfulness. Inspired by the likes of Pavement, Neutral Milk Hotel and Pixies, their By The Sea show will follow the August release of their debut album ‘Earl Grey.’

Formed in Bahrain, multi-instrumentalist quintet Flamingods are informed by the imagery, music and concepts of far-flung cultures as well as experimental, psych, rock and pop artists such as Boredoms, Animal Collective, Sun Araw, Sun City, Girls and Deerhunter.

Deep Throat Choir are an all-female singing collective formed by Luisa Gerstein, previously a member of Landshapes and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Their intricate vocal harmonies are showcased on their debut album ‘Be OK’ which combines their originals alongside arrangements of songs by artists including Electrelane, Wildbirds and Peacedrums, MK and Amy Winehouse.

Finally, former Let’s Wrestle guitarist Wesley Gonzalez has just released his debut solo album ‘Excellent Musician’. It evokes everything from mid 70s singer-songwriters such as Emitt Rhodes, the soul and funk stylings of Sly and The Family Stone and Donny Hathaway, and pioneering early electronic music from White Noise and Mort Garson.

There will also be the return of DJ sets by the dodgems. Although this year’s DJ bill is still to be announced, the concept has proved to be a memorable highlight with previous guests including Jarvis Cocker and Hot Chip.

Events in Margate

By The Sea’s festivities also spill across Margate throughout the course of the day. Attendees can start the day with brunch and DJs at Cliff’s Records and Coffee, then a refreshing swim at the Walpole Bay Tidal Pool before heading to the old town for a record fair and acoustic sessions at the Margate Museum.

There will be a daytime stage on Saturday and Sunday on Margate Main Sands featuring some a hand-picked selection of exciting up-and-coming artists. And then after-parties running late into the night at various local venues.
