An open meeting will reveal plans to convert this Warwick Road property into flats

Plans are to convert the Warwick Road property

A public drop-in session over the redevelopment of 17-21 Warwick Road will take place today (June 27) from 4pm to 8pm.

Thanet council has sent letters to residents in the area saying it wants to convert the property to affordable housing to be managed by East Kent Housing.

The proposal is to create nine,2 bedroom flats over three levels at the site.

In 2015 planning permission for three, four bed maisonettes and three,  two bed flats, following the demolition of existing ground floor front extension, was  voted down.

A vote by planning committee members at Thanet council agreed : “That  the application be deferred for the applicant to consider other options for use of the building as three town houses and then for application be reported to a subsequent meeting of the planning committee for decision”.

Proposals on view today will also include plans to  replace the  roof structure and coverings and add new doors.

Warwick Road sits within a conservation area.

Concerned residents say the plans indicate more than 35 people being housed at the building. A resident has also written to Sir Roger Gale to express concerns over  the impact that the flats will have on the protection of Warwick Road’s conservation area status, the amount of extra cars on the street and the introduction of even more large, unsightly bins on to the pavements.

The session will be held at Institute of St. Anselm, 51-59 Norfolk Road.

Staff from TDC and East Kent Housing will be present and welcome residents’ comments and feedback.
