A jobs fair due to take place at Westwood Cross today (October 6) was postponed because of low business take up.

The event is due to be rescheduled but Thanet council, which organised it, has apologised to those that went to the shopping centre hoping to job hunt today.

A spokesman said: “We’re always looking at ways we can encourage local people to take up local vacancies. The seasonal jobs fair didn’t get enough up take from employers in the time frame and so has been postponed.

“Apologies to anyone who went to Westwood Cross today.  We are continuing to work with local businesses to try innovative ways to bring them together with potential employees.

“One of the ways we are testing relationships with local businesses includes sharing their vacancies on https://www.thanet.gov.uk/your-services/jobs/job-vacancies/local-job-vacancies/ a dedicated page on the TDC website.”

The spokesman said the date was not convenient for some businesses and so the event will be reorganised to attract “the maximum number of job vacancies.”
