Thanet council’s enforcement team is investigating after two abandoned caravans, full of waste, were left in the London-bound lay-by between Minster and Monkton.
The authority says the caravans are believed to have been dumped there on November 15.

Another caravan has been left on Cottington Road in Cliffsend.
Thanet council is also investigating this and says: “The caravan has been left underneath the dual carriageway near to St Augustine’s Golf Club. Anyone with information is asked to email [email protected]
A Thanet council spokesperson said: “Keeping Thanet clean is one of the council’s top priorities. It means doing everything from street cleaning and fly-tipping clearance to enforcement action and education.
“Investigating and clearing fly-tips costs thousands of pounds each year and diverts resources away from keeping Thanet clean. It also causes damage to the natural environment and wildlife, disruption to nearby residents and to private land owners.
“Abandoning caravans on the highway is fly-tipping and fly-tipping is a criminal offence. Our team endeavours to act promptly to investigate when a fly-tip is reported. It is then removed as quickly as possible, to discourage further items from being dumped at the same spot.
“Streetscene enforcement officers work every day to tackle this illegal activity. There is CCTV in known hotspots across the district. The council regularly uses signs, leaflets and social media to remind residents and local businesses that fly-tipping is illegal and can lead to a £1,000 fixed penalty notice or £600 for household waste duty of care breaches. These can also lead to criminal prosecutions.

“It is important that people understand that it’s their responsibility to check they’re using a licensed carrier if they pay someone to dispose of large items or other household waste. If illegally fly-tipped waste can be traced back to them, then a fine may be issued.”
Examine it forensically, these people are usually lazy and would have left some evidence.

The 15th? Fairly certain we saw at least one of them when we went past there two weeks ago on the 9th.
Pretty sure those are stolen art installations (paying tribute to the burned out Caravan at Dane Park that was finally recently removed) from the Turner Centre.

If you drive the A299 everyday like I do it looks like a dump.The Thanet part is the only neglected part.It has loads of building rubbish,tins,litter,chairs,polyhene sheeting,tarpaulins on it so the offenders probably think its a refuse tip.The lay-bys on the Thanet stretch are the only ones where all the rubbish bins are overflowing with litter and blowing everywhere.In my opininion the Council also need to be charged.I have reported the neglect and nothing has happened.

Hopefully the council/kcc will act faster than they did in respect of the abadoned caravan that was set alight by Dane park. Which was still there not so long back.
The one that appeared in the layby most recently was torched last night!
And the other one went up last night!! Let’s see how long it takes the Council to clear up the mess…

The useless, clock-watching jobsworths at TDC took months and months to remove the burnt-out caravan from Dane Park.
TDC couldn’t organise a tupperware party.
And the less-than-useless bottom-feeders in the council chamber let TDC staff run rings round them.
TDC – Thanet District Circus… home of the clowns. (not at all true, clowns are funny).
That carriageway is the gateway to Thanet. What message does it say about our tourist towns? Those caravans have there for weeks, doubtless that TDC will have been informed so why haven’t they towed them away? Thank goodness this shambles of local ‘government’ will be voted out next May. Vote in your Reform candidate for sensible policies to restore pride in our area. We all deserve better folks!
If we all deserve better, voting Reform is not something we should do.
