The ScrapStore receives funding to expand its opening days!

East Kent Mencap has been awarded £16,100 through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund for The ScrapStore scheme.

The ScrapStore encourages the community to reduce waste by promoting reuse and recycling. Craft items are donated and saved from landfill, then sold at affordable prices, allowing people to get creative while supporting sustainability.

Run by a dedicated team, including volunteers with and without a learning disability, all proceeds go to East Kent Mencap and their work to support people with a learning disability.

The aim is to  increase life chances, investing in communities and places and supporting local business, people and skills.

Fiona Wonford, GOLD Project Manager, said: “Thank you Thanet District Council and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. This incredible funding will help us to promote sustainability and provide more valuable volunteering opportunities for people with and without a learning disability in our community.”

Elizabeth Cake, The ScrapStore Project Coordinator, said: “The treasure trove that is The ScrapStore has already achieved so much and I’m excited to see it grow with the help of the new funding. This wonderful asset to the community brings together people with and without a learning disability who have a shared interest in crafting, provides affordable arts and crafts supplies and saves tonnes of materials from landfill each year.”
