The meteorological beginning of Autumn on 1st September started with two launches for Ramsgate RNLI volunteer crew.
The first launch was by the inshore lifeboat Claire and David Delves to reports of two children struggling in the sea at Viking Bay, Broadstairs.
The inshore was paged at 4.33pm, launching at 4.40pm. However, at 4.43pm as the crew approached Dumpton Gap, the launch was cancelled as the children had been rescued by the RNLI Lifeguards on duty on the beach and handed into the care of HM Coastguard. The inshore returned to station arriving back at 4.51pm.
The second launch request from the Coastguard came through an hour later at 5.33pm, this time for the all-weather lifeboat Diamond Jubilee. The lifeboat launched at 5.43pm to a six metre yacht in the vicinity of the Stone Bay area of Broadstairs, with one person onboard, that had broken down and was unable to use its engine.
Due to concerns by the Coastguard of deteriorating weather conditions and tide and wind making difficult conditions, the decision was taken to take the yacht under tow and bring it back into Ramsgate Harbour. The lifeboat was back on service at 7.02pm.
