Warnings against going in the sea have been issued for six beaches from Kingsgate Bay to Dumpton Gap (incl Joss, Stone, Viking and Louisa bays) in Broadstairs due to sewerage outfalls, and also for West Bay in Westgate and Fulsam Rock at Margate due to a pollution risk.
A Thanet council spokesperson said: “Today (Thursday 27 August) signs advising against bathing have been put up at beaches in Broadstairs, from Kingsgate to Dumpton Gap.
“This precautionary measure follows confirmation from Southern Water that there has been an outfall release within the last 24 hours that may have affected water quality.
“Separately, signs advising members of the public against bathing or entering the sea, have been put in place today at West Bay, Westgate and Fulsam Rock, Margate.
“This is a precautionary measure, following a pollution risk warning from the Environment Agency, after heavy rain overnight.”
Excellent. Who’d a guessed that would happen!
Bank Holiday weekend….
Those who STILL insist on concreting over Thanet should be forced to swim in the sea!
It’s time Southern Water was taken into public ownership and the diversion of their profits to shareholders and their bosses was stopped. SW are not fit to provide water services and their continual discharges of untreated sewage is reprehensible. A bank holiday weekend and they’ve made sure that people won’t be able to use our beaches. Perhaps SW would like to make a donation to all the businesses which will lose money and all the people inconvenienced.
And not just developers concerting over – so many households now forced to do so in order to park cars on what were front gardens.
Why are they “forced” to? Try cycling and public transport instead!
Exactly. And no one forced thousands to AstroTurf and pave their back gardens, leaving no soak-away every time the heavens open. I am ‘guilty as charged’ as a car owner but I share a car with another adult and walk, cycle and train it when possible.
Time to remove those in charge.

So, instead of getting better after being fined twice by the Environmental Agency for dumping raw sewage in the sea, it gets worse! Each time it rains they use it as an excuse to get rid of some more sewage. How filthy of Southern Water. We live by the sea but cannot use it recreationally because SW use it to crap in.

Dog poo bins overflowing and spilling into the sea at Ramsgate.Sometimes weeks before emptied.I report to TDC and nothing happens.Rats started to assemble there now also.
