PEJ ABC Margate entered seven boxers in this year’s Manchester Box Cup, held at Leigh Sports Village. The club returned home with six gold medals.
Tommy Cleary, 11, won his semi‑final bout by unanimous points decision, then went on to win the final by a second‑round stoppage.
Kaiden Turner, 12, won his semi‑final bout by split points decision, then went on to win the final by unanimous points decision, putting in a big last round and forcing a standing count along the way.
Alfie Glithero, 13, won his semi‑final bout by unanimous decision over the Welsh national champion, and in the final won by split points decision over a very strong opponent from Jimmy Egan’s Gym in Manchester. This was his fourth successive gold medal at the Manchester Box Cup.
Ian Orme, 14, won his final by split points decision over a very strong opponent with a record of 36 bouts and 34 wins, and who was a European medallist.
Rio Licata, 14, won his final by split points decision over a highly rated, more experienced opponent from Manchester’s Team Greaves Boxing Gym.
Freddie Pettit, 16, won his final by unanimous points decision over the North West champion from Manchester’s Collyhurst and Moston Gym.
Ralph Mansfield, 13, was very unlucky in his semi‑final bout, dropping a split points decision to an Irish champion.
Coch Mario Michael said: “The coaching team and everyone involved at the club would like to congratulate all the boxers for their success, which was well deserved, and for working so hard in preparation.

PEJ ABC is based at 17 Hatfeild Road, Margate.
Sessions are on Monday, Wednesday and Friday – juniors 6pm-7pm, youths and seniors 7pm-9pm.
