Arrr, pirates will be landing in Ramsgate this June for a free family festival.
People are encouraged to join the midday muster at Plunder in the High Street on June 6 for a parade and then children’s entertainment, treasure hunt, competitions, live music, shanties and more.
Events will take place in the town and at the harbour and have been organised by the Ramsgate Pirates group.
Member Renee Richardson said: “The inspiration for the idea came on a returning visit from the annual gathering at Hastings Pirate Festival, the Nao Santa Maria replica galleon was docked in Ramsgate harbour and it inspired the idea of having our very own pirate festival here in Ramsgate with our rich maritime heritage.
“On a personal level, due to a long period of ill health and being bedridden for several years the urgency to live life to the full and leave a legacy enthused me.
“The mission of the Ramsgate Pirates is to create a non-profit, free, family-fun festival that celebrates creativity, history and community. Supported by Town Council, local businesses and enthusiastic participants and volunteers.
“On Saturday 6th June we encourage all of our community to join us in pirate costume and join the parade from midday in Ramsgate High street. Inclusive, immersive and an unforgettable experience, encouraging pirate crews from around the UK to join us in the fun and putting Ramsgate on the map of successful pirate themed events around our coastlines.”
