Families, railway enthusiasts and hobby fans are invited to join Hornby Hobbies and the One:One Collection for a summer open weekend on 15th and 16th August.
The event is in partnership with Southeastern to celebrate 100 years of Thanet’s railway stations.
Taking place across two days at The WonderWorks and One:One Collection, the event will bring together full-size heritage locomotives, interactive model displays, hands-on activities and some of the biggest names in hobbies for a celebration of Britain’s railway heritage and the joy of model making.
Visitors will have the rare opportunity to preview the One:One Collection, home to an collection of full-size railway artefacts and engineering icons.
Highlights include the mighty Black 5 and iconic Royal Scot locomotives, Churchill’s funeral carriage and the original departure boards from London Euston station. Guests can also enjoy a working O gauge layout and impressive large-scale engineering models.
Alongside the railway heritage on display, the open weekend will feature exhibitors and layouts from across the hobby and heritage railway community, including the Watercress Line Heritage Railway Trust, Sittingbourne & Kemsley Light Railway, Southern Locomotive Ltd, Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway Supporters Association, The Kent & East Sussex Railway, Ashford Model Railway Museum, Horton Common and many more.
Visitors can also enjoy:
- Interactive train layouts and Scalextric racing
- Creative play areas for children
- Displays from Hornby, Airfix, Scalextric, Corgi, Warlord and Pocher
- An interactive Scalextric Goodwood layout
- Exhibits and activities from Southeastern Railway
- Food and refreshments from The WonderWorks café and catering coaches at One:One Collection
The event will also include free parking on a first-come, first-served basis and step-free access throughout most of the venue.

I wonder if celebrity model railway enthusiasts Sir Rod Stewart , Kent resident Jools Holland and also Pete Waterman are popping down to see this exhibition . I know Rod Stewart has got an amazing model railway and I’ve often hoped that one day he will do a documentary about his fantastic layout which he has made much of it by hand and keeps him chilled especially when he’s touring in America
