Minster Church of England Primary School is celebrating a remarkable evening of success following the Kent Education Awards, held on Friday evening at the Ashford International Hotel.
The annual event brought together hundreds of education professionals from across Kent to celebrate excellence in teaching and support for children and young people. With more than 1,800 nominations submitted this year, competition was particularly strong, making Minster’s achievements all the more significant.
Three members of staff from the school were recognised at regional level, reflecting the strength and consistency of practice across the whole team.
Andrew Woodward was named Teacher of the Year for East Kent, while Jack Fasham and Francesca Hussey were jointly awarded Teaching Assistant of the Year for East Kent. These awards acknowledge the impact staff make not just within the classroom, but across the wider life of the school, supporting children’s learning, wellbeing and development.
Minster’s achievements were further recognised at county level. Andrew Woodward was awarded Kent Teacher of the Year, one of the highest honours of the evening, while Jack Fasham was named Teaching Assistant of the Year for the whole of Kent. The awards highlight exceptional dedication and a sustained commitment to improving outcomes for children.
The recognition is particularly meaningful given that nominations came from parents and members of the local community, reflecting the strong relationships that underpin the school’s work. At Minster, staff place a clear emphasis on working in partnership with families to ensure every child is supported to succeed.
‘Whole team’
Richard Russell, Head of School, said: “This was an incredible evening for our school. To have three members of staff recognised from over 1,800 nominations is something we are immensely proud of. What makes it even more special is that these awards reflect the work of the whole team at Minster. Every member of staff plays a vital role in supporting our children and families.
“We are proud, but also very humble. We know that what matters most is the difference we make to children’s lives, and that remains our focus every day. These awards are a celebration of the care, commitment and teamwork that define our school.”
Andrew reflected on his award, emphasising the collective nature of the achievement: “It’s a real honour to receive this recognition, but it’s not something I see as an individual achievement. I’m part of an incredible team, and everything we do is centred on the children. Seeing them grow in confidence and flourish is what makes the role so rewarding.”
Jack highlighted the importance of relationships and consistency in supporting pupils: “I feel incredibly proud, but also very grateful. Being part of the Minster team means working alongside colleagues who care deeply about every child. That shared commitment is what helps us give our best every day.”
Francesca added: “It was such a special evening and a real honour to be recognised. What makes Minster special is how everyone works together for the children. It’s a supportive, dedicated team and I feel very lucky to be part of it.”
Leaders at the school were also keen to recognise the contributions of all staff, noting that while a small number were formally recognised, the awards reflect a wider culture of collaboration, high expectations and care. From classroom teaching to pastoral support, the school’s approach focuses on ensuring that every child feels valued, supported and able to succeed.
The school has also extended its thanks to parents and community members who took the time to submit nominations. Their support, leaders say, is a vital part of what makes the school such a strong and connected community.
While the awards mark an important milestone for the school, the focus remains firmly on the future. Staff at Minster continue to work together with a shared purpose – to provide the best opportunities for every child, ensuring they are able to grow, achieve and flourish.
