Marvellous mini-beasts have creepy-crawled their way into class at St Gregory’s Catholic Primary in Margate.
The creature collection from the Jaws ‘n’ Claws educational team were the stars of the show in a special Science session linked to work about animals and in support of learning about diet, habitat, taking care of animals, vertebrates/invertebrates and teeth.
The Year 3 and Year 4 groups were able to meet, stroke and hold an array of diverse creatures.
These ranged from a blue tongued skink, tree frogs, and a goliath toad to a snake, giant millipedes, tortoises, and hissing cockroaches.
Lower Key Stage 2 Lead Rosie Hart said: “It was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils – they were excited about the visit for weeks and meeting the Jaws ’n ’Claws mini-beasts did not disappoint.
“The children were able to get up close to a range of unusual animals and they asked fantastic questions to Phil, the expert handler.
“The event left the children amazed and they couldn’t stop talking about what they had seen and done – they voted it their best day at school.”
Head Teacher Dave Walker said: “This was an outstanding opportunity for our children to really find out more about a range of creatures in a fun-filled, educational and informative session.
“It is a positive way of reinforcing topic wok they are learning in class and meeting the handler with his breadth of knowledge and finding out interesting information about each creature was invaluable to their learning.
“Where possible we are always keen to offer value-added and enriching experiences to support and broaden the learning journey for our pupils.
“The Jaws ’n’ Claws visit was a real memorable moment for Year 3 and Year 4.”
