East Kent indie-rock five-piece aKadem will drop their third single, ‘Altercation’, released digitally on Friday 8 May via Rezzonator Music.
Altercation is the second release taken from the band’s intensive three-day recording session at Wincraft Studios, the studio founded by Steve Winwood in the Cotswolds.
The band is made up of 19-year-olds Brooke (Faversham) on vocals, Ethan (Faversham) on lead guitar, Beth (Canterbury) on bass guitar, rhythm guitarist Zach (Ramsgate) and drummer Aston (Ramsgate).
Following on from anthem ‘Corrupted’, the band’s distinctive energy and pulling-no-punches sound is out in full force in ‘Altercation’. Hard-driving guitars from Ethan and Zach are complemented by Aston’s showstopping drumming and Beth’s in-the-pocket bass, all smoothed over by lead singer Brooke’s vocals.
After a stellar year with singles ‘Hurricane’ and ‘Corrupted’ scoring airplay on BBC Introducing, the band continue to wow audiences with live performances, this summer being no exception with gigs booked in Faversham, Dover and Broadstairs.
The band have also landed the much-coveted support slot to Dizzy Lizzy in Dover on 30 May.
‘Altercation’ was produced and mixed by industry veteran Mike McEvoy, who previously played in Steve Winwood’s Traffic and has also worked with artists including Sting, Melissa Etheridge, Ian Dury, Scritti Pollitti and Orange Juice.
Studio engineering was provided by James Towler, Dan Thomas and former Pie Factory Emerging Artist Jan Quindoyos.

Guitarist Zach added: “This feels like a big departure for us. It’s a different, more riffy sound to Hurricane and Corrupted. We can’t wait to share it live.”
