Ramsgate Winter Festival – final weekend of Light Up Ramsgate
The Light Up Ramsgate trail will see the addition of one new artwork thanks to funding from Arts Council England.
Under The Same Stars, now at St George’s Church, is a giant inflatable illuminated constellation of stars, created by members of the community including local faith groups and Open Arms at Pie Factory, led by Carson Parkin-Fairley.
The piece is a celebration of togetherness. It invites us to remember: no matter where we are from or what we believe, we all live under the same stars. St George’s Church, Friday and Saturday 2-7pm, Sunday 5.30-7pm.
Continuing until Sunday: Event Horizon (sponsored by Vattenfall) at the Sailors Church, Familiar Faces, Forgotten Places (supported by funding from RTC), Harbour Street and Unconditional by Jas Dhillon at Ramsgate Space. Alongside the continued display of Party Animals (supported by Video Illusions) at Arts In Ramsgate and the remaining light trail artworks from Addington Street to Bellevue Road.
The final Light Up Lates evening is at Radford House on January 30th, with CRUX transforming the venue into an electrifying evening of live audio visual performance. Crux AV brings together live electronic music and projected visuals, and this is their first time in Ramsgate.
For families, Ramsgate’s much loved Discovery Planet presents a free workshop, Good Vibrations, on January 31st at Arts In Ramsgate. An invitation to step away from the darkness of January and join them for a series of 30 minute calm inclusive sessions exploring movement, sound, music, science, nutrition & social connection. These are drop in sessions, with no booking required. Open for all ages; come alone or in a group, join in or just observe – everyone is welcome
Floating Frequencies returns with two sound baths at St George’s Church on February 1 at 2pm and 4pm – booking essential.
Ramsgate Winter Festival is being made possible thanks to core support from Ramsgate Town Council, the Canterbury Diocese via the ‘Project 200’ regeneration project at St George’s Church, and Vattenfall, marking 20 years of offshore wind farming in Thanet.
The extended Light Up Ramsgate trail is being funded by Arts Council England.

Heavy Wild

Heavy Wild is a London-based lo-fi alt-rock project blending post-punk grit, with shoegaze atmospherics and emotionally charged songwriting to create a dark and compelling sound. Formed in 2022, the band, led by songwriter Wolfgang Harte, has quickly built a reputation for its raw, analogue-driven sound and dark, introspective lyrical style.

Winter Wellness Festival

This winter, Margate’s Turner Contemporary presents a three-week programme that reflects on what it means to care for ourselves and for one another

Mr. Scruff

Part of Mr. Scruff’s second tour in support of Music Venue Trust and Save Our Scene.
Mr. Scruff joins the Margate Arts Club for one of his legendary all night across-the-board DJ sets, spinning soul, jazz, hip-hop, house, electro, disco, funk, breaks, afro, Latin, reggae and all points in between.
Celebrating musical connections through the speakers and personal ones on the dance floor.
£1 from each ticket will go to the LiveLine Fund, created by MVT and SOS. Aimed at supporting the independent music scene, the Liveline Fund is primarily focused on strengthening the future viability of the UK grassroots music ecosystem.

Minus One by Lynn Myhill
The first half of each performance is a two-hander by local writer/actor/director, Peter Barnett, and concerns a brother and sister at their mother’s wake. It is a gritty tale, but with moments of humour.
The second half features 8 short “playlets” written by Lynn Myhill, with a widow or widower as the main character. There are 4 monologues, 2 duologues, one three, and one four hander. Each looks at different aspects of life following the death of a spouse.

Cee & André Dack – Night Sea Voyage

A collaborative installation of painting, sculpture and sound.
Night Sea Voyage tells the story of a descent into the Underworld through the unconscious, using visual and sonic structures to navigate obscure places and summoning ancestral spirits to steer a dark passage to insight and transformation.
Both based in Ramsgate, Cee uses her fine art practice to explore consciousness, reality and the human experience while André Dack is a composer and sound artist who focuses on ethereal, otherworldly noise to transport to other spaces.

The Power of Hipismo – A Shipzy Show

See Shipzy (a.k.a. James Timmins) the high-performance performance artist from the post-industrial British Midlands.
A former senior change management consultant and semi-professional endurance athlete, Shipzy is now bringing his incessant drive and growth mindset to the subterranean world of alternative music.
His debut EP on Caravela Records deals with agonising nihilism of the post-truth age, and is heavily influenced by a recent near-death experience whilst e-biking in the Austrian Tyrol, and his subsequent immersion in the avant-garde literature of Timothy ‘4-Hour’ Ferris.

Release your inner potters as you make the pots or sculptures of your dreams in a professional studio space at Clayspace in Cliftonville
These classes offer an exciting opportunity for adults and children to have a creative session together working with real clay!
These 2 hour sessions are suitable for all ages and abilities and give everyone plenty of time to make something by hand, and also to have a go on the potter’s wheel.
There’s a zero waste policy in the studio, and any pots you don’t want to keep can be completely recycled and the clay will be used again, so you can just choose your best masterpieces for firing at the end of the session.
There is a small charge for all work you wish to be fired which is calculated by weight or volume to cover the cost of clay, glazes and firing.

Developed with world-leading artists in response to the recent war crimes in Gaza and the ongoing oppression of the Palestinian people, this show demands a renewed relationship with the loyalties we hold in grief.

The East Kent Railway Community Volunteer Big Clean Weekend

Where- The East Kent Heritage Railway, Station Rd, Shepherdswell, Dover CT15 7PD
The East Kent Railway is a charitable trust run completely by volunteers.
Four times a year they hold community volunteer events for the local community to come along and help out at the site.
This winter has not been kind to the lovely heritage site and there is lots to do, from clearing rubbish, getting rid of weeds, clearing our woodland, painting, maintenance, cleaning and much more….
People of all ages welcome. The whole family can get involved in this wonderful community event. (under 18s must be accompanied by an adult)
