Looping the Loop theatre company, which heads up Thanet Youth Theatre, is launching a new class tomorrow (Monday 12 January).
All children aged 7-11 in Thanet have the chance to take part with sessions in the first term costing £1 per child.
The new session will run on Mondays at 5pm – 6pm at the Unity Church in Union Crescent, Margate.
The Thanet Youth Theatre launched in April 2024 thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign and runs an existing two classes each week at ARK in Cliftonville, led by Brigitte Aphrodite.
The project aims to build confidence and communication skills among young people and nurtures each individual, supporting them to develop self-expression, confidence and communication skills.
Children and young people can explore a kaleidoscope of fun games, create performances and make lots of new friends at the same time.
The new Monday session for 7-11year-olds will be led by Looping the Loop’s Creative Director Ellie Jones. As a professional theatre director, she likes to make the impossible into a possible! Her teaching celebrates storytelling using bold visuals, collective movement and discovers the skills of each participant.
As a mum herself, she’s well aware of how difficult it can be for young people and she brings a kind, adventurous and inventive mind to her work and these sessions.

does anyone get taught any practical or life skills today ? it seems to me they are trying to turn the youth of today into artists or theatricals , i wonder who will be building the roads and houses in the future
I did similar activities at school in the ’60s, so did my kids, so do my grandkids.
The skills that underpin civil engineering etc. are still taught to this age group.
It’s to build up confidence a lot of young people have no confidence so to me I think this is good.
Hope it all works out for everyone and can keep it at a reasonable cost, because everything is a struggle in this day n age.
