Festive fun is underway at Newington Community Primary in Ramsgate with parents and children uniting in creativity.
Together they are constructing their own decorations that will be added to the large decorative hoops that will be suspended from the main hall ceiling as part of the annual colourful display that transforms the heart of the school.
Head Teacher Hannah Tudor is thrilled with the support of the school’s families who she praised for the way they interact with Newington’s varied activities throughout the year.
She said: “It is amazing the way our parents are always keen to be an integral part of our community – they are always willing to take an active part in their child’s education and it is great to see children’s faces when the parents come in to their classrooms.
“Hanging the hoops is a special tradition for us and each child creates a Christmas craft piece to be added to their class hoop. Our families joined in making the decorative items which makes them a part of the tradition as well.
“There is often a little bit of competition between the staff and our whole school team comes together for the annual hoop hanging event – then the children come in to school the next morning to see their art work on display. It is an exciting and memorable moment for them.
“It marks the start of our busy festive season that gathers momentum through to the last day of term. There are a host of activities planned and these include some beautiful festive displays and artwork in and around the school, children are practising their Christmas songs and carols, nativity performances, class parties, Santa’s grotto, and there will be a special Christmas musical production that is always a big treat.
“It is a feel-good time of year and I am always impressed with the enthusiasm and energy that our staff give to ensure it is a truly memorable moment for all our children and their families.”
