Young music fans have been rocking out at St Gregory’s Catholic Primary in Margate.
Pupils had the opportunity to try out real instruments – including electric guitar, keyboards, drums, and vocals – and perform together in their very own bands.
Interactive workshops with players from the Rocksteady Music School gave children the chance to build confidence, develop teamwork skills, and discover the joy of making music.
The visit created a real buzz throughout the school and Jordan Gilbert, Music lead at the school, said: “We were so excited to welcome the Rocksteady team.
“Music is such a powerful way for children to express themselves, and opportunities like this allow them to shine in new and creative ways. It was wonderful to see the excitement on their faces when they picked up an instrument and realised they could be part of a band.”
“Not every child has access to instruments or lessons outside of school – that’s why it was so valuable to have Rocksteady here in our community giving every child the chance to discover music and the confidence that comes with it.”
Assistant Head Teacher Athanasia Papa-Adams agreed. She said: “Every single child was engaged and took part in the sessions. Rocksteady’s inclusive approach ensures every pupil, regardless of background or prior experience, could experience the joy of playing in a band.”
Rocksteady Music School online states: “Our inclusive approach helps children find a sense of belonging through new friendships and a shared love for music, whilst boosting social skills, wellbeing and confidence.”
Exploring different aspects of music is an important and developing theme at St Gregory’s.
In July children visited a local recording studio to perform and record a special anthem to mark the jubilee year being celebrated by Catholic schools nationwide
