Filming for a big budget ‘Tollywood’ movie has been taking place in Margate.
Crews filmed along the seafront and King’s Steps yesterday (September 19) and are due back again this evening.
Tollywood is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Telugu language
The £1m movie, understood to be titled Production No.32, stars Vaishnavi Chaitanya and Anand Deverakonda.
Vaishnavi, 32, is an award-winning Telugu actress who has a huge 2.1 million followers on social media.
Anand, 33, worked in the USA before returning to India to pursue a full-time career in film. He also has an engineering degree.
The new film, described as a love story, launched with a puja ceremony on May 15, and began principal photography in June. The cast and crew came to the UK in August to shoot scenes in Margate and other Kent locations.
It is directed by Aditya Hasan, with music by Hesham Abdul Wahab, under Sithara Entertainments. It is expected that filming has, or will, also take place at Dreamland. Last year Dreamland bosses revealed they were in talks for a Bollywood filming building takeover this year.
It is understood the film will be released for Valentine’s Day 2026.
