A spokesperson for Iceland has now confirmed the Margate branch in College Square will close on June 21.
Staff were informed of the closure at the beginning of this month.
The spokesperson said: “We can confirm our Margate Iceland store will close.
“Our store colleagues have entered into a consultation process and have been offered opportunities at surrounding stores where possible.”
Iceland has some 900 stores in the UK. In In 2014, Iceland launched The Food Warehouse a brand name used for their superstores.
There is a Food Warehouse outlet at Westwood and Iceland stores in Ramsgate and Broadstairs.
The number of staff affected by the Margate closure has not been confirmed.
I wonder how much that theivin has to do with this decision? A family member works in retail in Ramsgate and I am told it is endemic there and wonders how they are still in business because of it.
On-line shopping should not affect Iceland to any extent

i know , why not turn it into an art gallery , everyone loves the arts and exhibitions without exception , margate is short of that sort of thing , and no doubt huge grants are avaliable

It’s probably the case that the lease is up renewal and the landlord has upped the rent considerably.
Possibly the same situation regarding The Works too.
I stopped shopping in Iceland Margate a few years ago as they don’t have a gluten free section. And don’t stock any gluten free pizzas.
Why is it that so many stores have the tills at the opposite end to the exit, Matalan is a prime example, I wonder how many just walk out without paying
