Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a man reportedly sprayed a group of people with “a strong alkali liquid.”
Kent Police say: “Shortly before 1.15am today (November 9), a group of people were involved in a disturbance in Mansion Street, which runs between Fort Road and The Parade.
“During the incident, the man reportedly sprayed others with the liquid, believed to be a strong alkali, causing four people to suffer reddening and irritation to their faces and/or chest.
“Officers attended and have seized a bottle believed to have contained the substance used.”
It is understood the substance may have been peroxide. Five people were sprayed in total and at least one man is understood to have suffered second degree burns while another is in hospital after the substance affected their eyes.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing and police have released CCTV images of a man who may be able to assist enquiries.
