Hot on the heels of Shea Pingle and the Swarm, her second picture book launched last month, Manston author Carol M. Salter has teamed up with her newest illustrator, Danny Ireton, also known at the Ginger illustrator.
The new book, The Tales of Timmy and his Magic Toe Beans, is aimed at seven to 11 year olds and focuses on the theme of kindness, with a tiny bit of magic thrown in. The tales are in rhyme with full colour illustrations featuring exciting local scenes of Broadstairs and Margate.
Birchington dad-of-three Danny, a third generation greengrocer by trade, has increased his art in recent years to include painting, photography, and in this case digital art.
Carol made the decision to employ coloured pages for all her picture books. For this book the story pages are pale blue, improving their dyslexia and Irlen’s friendliness for early readers.
Other signature elements of Carol’s design work include; a dedication page which in her childhood made any book received more valuable and precious. In addition, there is an activity section at the back where children can colour in the key characters, or draw small characters, or find and count. This supports children’s differing learning needs. This section can be photocopied for schools to use.
Timmy’s launch will be held at Danny’s shop, Monty’s in Station Road, Birchington on Saturday 30th November from 10am to 3pm.
All Carol’s books will be available to buy on the day including Chicken Wizard and the Witch on the Warpath trilogy. For anyone unable to make the event, books are available after the launch via Waterstones, or locally at Monty’s, Taddy’s Barn or Westgate Galleria.
This is not Carol and Danny’s only endeavour, they are currently working on the follow-up to Timmy for release in 2025.
