Man arrested and another flown to hospital with serious injuries following incident in Westgate

A man has been arrested after being brought in from the sea at West Bay following a reported assault in Westgate this morning (July 19).

The victim was flown to King’s hospital in London with serious injuries.

Police, ambulance, air ambulance and the police helicopter were at the scene. A major search took place and armed police were spotted near the community centre.

A man was then located in the sea at West Bay and a cordon was put in place while negotiation to bring him in took place.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Kent Police was called at 8.17am on Friday 19 July following a report that a man had been assaulted at a property in Linden Road, Westgate-on-Sea.

“Officers attended along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and an air ambulance and the man was flown to a London hospital with serious injuries.

“A 49-year-old man, who is known to the victim, was later arrested near Sea Road in connection with the incident.

“He has been taken into custody and officers remain in the area carrying out enquiries.”

An air ambulance spokesperson added: ““A helicopter from Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) was dispatched to Westgate-on-Sea on 19 July.

“Our crew arrived on scene at 09:49, where they worked with SECAmb and Kent Police to help treat the patient, who was transported to a Major Trauma Centre by air.”
